On February 25, solid-state battery technology pioneer ION Storage Systems (ION) announced a major breakthrough with its battery cells demonstrating a 25x increase in capacity and 1,000 cycles in a commercialization-related footprint.
This achievement marks a significant step forward in the company's path to the commercialization of solid-state batteries, validating their performance and durability in multiple applications, particularly ION's batteries that do not exhibit compression or volume changes during cycling, overcoming key technical hurdles in solid-state battery applications. ION's new battery demonstrates breakthrough performance, with a 25x increase in capacity compared to previous designs, a 40mm x 40mm battery size, and the potential for further expansion. Even in larger sizes, the battery can achieve more than 1,000 charge cycles.

In addition, this year, the technological progress in the field of solid-state batteries has been a lot of good news Breakthroughs by major companies are expected to improve solid-state batteries in terms of performance, safety and durability across the board, driving the adoption of longer-range, higher-efficiency electric vehicles and longer-lasting energy storage solutions. The application of solid-state batteries is getting closer and closer.
