Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration jointly issued the "Notice on the Orderly Promotion of the Development of Green Electricity Direct Connections", which for the first time standardized the green electricity direct connection model at the national level, and clarified that new energy projects such as wind power and photovoltaics can supply electricity to a single user through direct connection lines, but hydropower and nuclear power are not included. This policy has a far-reaching impact on the lithium battery industry chain, especially for lithium battery companies that rely on green electricity production (such as CATL and Envision Group), and has put forward higher requirements to promote the industry to accelerate the transformation to low carbon and self-sufficiency. Faced with the pressure of international carbon tariffs and domestic green electricity policies, leading lithium battery companies have taken the lead. CATL has developed a 4775.8MW renewable energy project through its subsidiary Times Green Energy, and participated in the Jiangsu green electricity direct connection pilot to provide stable green electricity for its lithium battery factory. Envision Group has achieved 100% green electricity self-sufficiency in the Chifeng project in Inner Mongolia through the "isolated grid" model, combining lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePO4 battery) energy storage technology to reduce dependence on the power grid.
The green electricity direct connection policy will accelerate the application of lithium ion batteries in the energy storage field and promote the expansion of the lithium ion battery wholesale market. At the same time, the policy encourages self-built green electricity projects, prompting companies to explore innovative models combining lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO4 batteries) with distributed energy to balance costs and emission reduction targets.
