The United States: will revoke the preferential policies for electric vehicles, and impose tariffs on battery materials!

Donald Trump takes the oath of office during the inauguration ceremony as the 47th president of the United States in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, capital of the United States, January 20, 2019.
On the same day, Trump signed an executive order announcing that the United States would withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change. At the same time, Trump signed an executive order to repeal nearly 80 policies of the Biden administration.

The main contents include:

  • Will declare a national energy emergency and drill at full capacity
  • Reinventing America as a manufacturing nation will tap the largest oil and gas reserves on the planet
  • Refill strategic reserves and export American energy to countries around the world
  • Would end the Green New Deal, roll back electric vehicle mandates, and save the auto industry
  • A foreign tax bureau was established and tariffs were imposed on foreign imports

Reinvigorate local car manufacturing

Mr Trump cited moves to revive US manufacturing, reiterating his campaign promise to end Mr Biden's electric car policies and revive local car manufacturing.

In his speech, Trump said he would end the Green New Deal, undo the Biden administration's electric vehicle policies, "save our auto industry," and deliver on his promises to American autoworkers. "We're going to be building cars in America again at a pace that no one could have imagined just a few years ago," he said.

Last month, China Central Television cited overseas media reports that Trump's team had proposed broad reforms, cutting off policy support for electric vehicles and charging stations, and imposing tariffs on all battery materials worldwide. The group has also called for the elimination of the Biden administration's $7,500 tax credit for consumers buying electric vehicles.
