On March 28, global battery manufacturer CALB officially debuted its mass-produced 400Wh/kg solid-liquid hybrid battery at the Hefei New Energy Commercial Vehicle Exhibition, with the system making its first market installation in Chery’s new energy light-duty mini-trucks. This milestone marks the first large-scale commercial rollout of high-energy-density solid-liquid hybrid battery technology in the global commercial vehicle segment, with CALB also showcasing its full "Zhiyuan" commercial battery series across multiple Chery light commercial platforms, including cargo trucks and delivery vans, at the brand’s spring launch event.

Core Technical Breakthroughs of the Mass-Produced Hybrid System

At the core of this launch is a record-setting system-level energy density of 400Wh/kg, a new industry benchmark for commercial vehicle battery systems. This delivers a 122% uplift in energy density compared to conventional liquid lithium-ion batteries used in comparable commercial models, enabling drastically extended driving range while reducing overall vehicle curb weight to boost payload capacity and operational efficiency for fleet operators.

Unrivaled Safety Validation for Commercial Fleet Use Cases

The battery system has completed and passed 44 rigorous safety and reliability validation tests, including direct fire exposure, thermal propagation resistance, crush testing, external short-circuiting, underbody impact and scraping, and prolonged ice-water immersion. All test results far exceed the strict requirements of China’s GB 38031-2025 electric vehicle battery safety standard, delivering inherent fail-safe performance across the full vehicle lifecycle and all real-world operating conditions, from urban last-mile delivery routes to harsh off-highway fleet operations.

Fast Charging & All-Weather Performance to Minimize Fleet Downtime

For commercial fleets, minimizing downtime is directly tied to profitability, and the new hybrid battery supports 2C supercharging technology, enabling a 30% to 80% state of charge (SOC) top-up in just 15 minutes. This rapid charging capability drastically cuts vehicle idle time during driver breaks, maximizing daily operational hours for logistics and delivery fleets.
Additionally, the system resolves a longstanding pain point for electric commercial vehicles: cold-weather performance degradation. In frigid -25°C environments, the battery retains over 20% more driving range than equivalent conventional liquid lithium-ion systems, while supporting continuous 1C discharge rates. This breakthrough eliminates the range and performance drops that have historically limited electric commercial vehicle adoption in cold regions across North America, Europe, and Northern Asia.

Commercialization Roadmap & Industry Impact

The mass production and market launch of this 400Wh/kg solid-liquid hybrid battery represents a critical milestone in CALB’s roadmap to commercialize advanced high-energy-density energy storage solutions for the transportation sector. Moving forward, the company plans to scale the application of this technology across a wider range of commercial vehicle segments, specialized fleet operations, and broader transportation use cases. By delivering high-energy, ultra-safe, all-weather battery solutions to the commercial vehicle market, CALB aims to unlock greater total cost of ownership benefits for fleet operators and end-users worldwide.
As the global commercial vehicle electrification transition accelerates, advanced high-energy-density, all-weather battery technologies are becoming the core driver of fleet adoption. XIHO Battery closely tracks global breakthroughs in lithium-ion and hybrid battery technology, delivering high-performance, safety-certified LiFePO4 and commercial vehicle battery solutions tailored to the needs of North American and European fleet operators, logistics providers, and commercial vehicle manufacturers.
